On Wednesday June 5, 2013 at approximately 08:00hrs Company 59 was dispatched to Baltimore Pike, just north of Ring Road for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a dump truck. Rescue 59 arrived on location and found a dump truck laying on its driver's side in the south bound lanes of Route 1 with all occupants out of the vehicle. No injuries were reported however, the accident caused the fuel tank to rupture, releasing diesel fuel onto the roadway. Crews from Rescue 59 quickly controlled the fuel spill by placing an absorbent on the roadway as well as around the storm drain to prevent further contamination. The county was notified and a Haz-Mat team was dispatched. The highway remained shut down for several hours while crews removed the vehicle, debris, and decontaminated the affected area.
