GENERAL BURNING SAFETY TIPS
Before You Burn
Check local laws & burn bans – Call your local fire department or check your town’s website.
Pick a safe day – Choose a day with low wind (less than 10 mph) and good humidity.
Prep the site – Clear a 10-foot radius of leaves, grass, and flammable debris around your burn spot.
Have tools ready – Keep a shovel, rake, and a connected water hose or buckets nearby.
Notify neighbors – Especially important if there might be heavy smoke.

While Burning
Never leave the fire unattended – Even for a second.
Keep it small – A manageable fire is a safe fire.
Burn one pile at a time – Don’t overload the area with too much material.
Watch the wind – If it picks up, be ready to extinguish the fire quickly.

Putting It Out
Drown the fire – Soak it thoroughly with water, stir the ashes, then soak it again.
Check for heat – Feel for any warmth using the back of your hand. If it’s warm, it’s not out.
Never leave until it’s cold – Cold to the touch means it’s safe to leave.
Thank you for your cooperation.
